Top Surrey agents launch hybrid firm ‘in recognition of the changing face of estate agency’

Two of the Home Counties’s most successful prime property agents have launched a new hybrid “estate agency hub” offering “the best of both” across the Surrey hills and Sussex borders.

The new Cranleigh-based (“off the high street”) outfit is called simply “house.”, and offers “all the services of the traditional high street estate agency without the need for costly high street offices.” Fee structures are flexible, and will be “based on the specific requirements of each individual vendor, and what is suitable.” There’s just one office for now, but there are “aspirations to expand”.

David Carter and Andrew Giller, founders of house., have spent 40 years between them in the Surrey market, working with some of the top names on both sales and acquisition sides. The pair has launched the new venture “in recognition of the changing face of estate agency”.

  • Giller (pictured below on the left) ran Savills’ Guildford office, having previously worked as a buying agent at The Buying Solution – first as Head of London Buying then as Head of Home Counties – and, before that, at Property Vision.
  • Carter (pictured below on the right) spent nearly 25 years with Hamptons International, becoming Head of Country Houses before moving to Savills’ Guildford office to deal in country houses and estates in the Surrey hills and West Sussex.

The business is currently listing five properties for sale (promoted on Rightmove, Zoopla and Primelocation), ranging from a £925k wing to a £1.875m number in Godalming, and plans to move into the lettings arena sometime in 2017.

Andrew Giller, Director at house: “From our many years buying and selling property, we have recognised that estate agency has moved on; vendors are increasingly considering instructing an online agent to sell their home, but still want the personal service they get from local experts. Being based off the high street means we can offer our vendors a flexible fee structure, with no need for them to cover the huge expense of a costly shop front within their fees.”
